The power station is expected to be available for commercial operation during the winter of 2008-09. Construction work started in late 2006 with the bulk of this taking place in 2007 and 2008. A commissioning phase will then take place before the plant becomes fully operational.
We have signed the necessary agreements with National Grid to ensure the gas and power infrastructure are in place, allowing them to plan their requirements – which include a gas pipeline and electricity network enhancement, both prerequisites for the Langage project to progress.
The project is fully consented and we have received strong support at both national and local level. However, as with any infrastructure project, there are those with concerns. We take our responsibilities very seriously and will continue to ensure that we keep the community informed during the development stage.
Key milestones on the project will be previewed in the local media, through this website or through Local Liaison Committee meetings. We will also launch a newsletter for the local community, prior to the main construction work starting. There is a freephone number for information: 0800 371726.
We are also planning a separate project to link National Grid's gas pipeline extension at Choakford with the power station. This will see a 3km pipeline being developed under Centrica's guidance.
