The Docking Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is one of Centrica's prospective renewables developments in the Greater Wash.
Centrica was awarded an Agreement for Lease from The Crown Estate in 2004 for the development of a wind farm at Docking Shoal. Subject to consent, the project (up to 540MW) would be one of three Round 2 wind farms to be built by Centrica. The others are the Lincs and Race Bank Offshore Wind Farms.
Lincs was consented in October 2008 and construction is subject to approval by the Centrica Board. We submitted a consent application for Race Bank in January 2009. A map of Centrica’s projects in The Greater Wash is available in the Docking Shoal Useful Downloads section.
An application for consent for the Docking Shoal development was submitted to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in early December 2008. The application was accompanied by an Environmental Statement (ES) which includes a description of the baseline conditions and a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI) was published and submitted to DECC in September 2009. These studies address such issues as marine ecology and ornithology, shipping and navigation, socio-economic impacts, commercial fishing and coastal processes.
Although the offshore wind industry is still in its infancy, Centrica has assembled a strong team to deliver its Greater Wash projects. We are also able to draw on our considerable offshore experience and the expertise of wind developers AMEC and Renewable Energy Systems (RES), who are working with us to advance these projects to consent and construction.
There are a number of significant stakeholders with an interest in offshore developments. A process of consultation has been underway with key statutory bodies and many other interested parties for some time.
