
Centrica announced in late 2005 that it would purchase the entire power output of the 36 turbine wind farm. On 1 August 2007, which coincided with commissioning of the site, Centrica announced it had acquired a 50% joint venture stake in the wind farm.
Construction activity began in 2005. The 36 turbines are V80 machines manufactured by Vestas in Campbeltown. Alfred McAlpine was awarded the contract to construct the roads, foundations and electrical infrastructure.
Braes of Doune is expected to generate sufficient power to meet the annual demand of 46,000 Scottish Gas households, with zero carbon emissions from power generation.
